About Kathy
Kathy Kopellis McLeod is a well-respected
Western Australian dog behaviour consultant who been
working in the dog training field for nearly two decades.
Kathy has a Certificate in Canine Behaviour and is
recognised by the International Association of Animal
Behaviour Consultants as a Certified Dog Behaviour Consultant.
She is also a member of the Australian Veterinary Association's
behaviour special interest group, Pet Industry Association
of Australia, Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia
and the Canine Association of Western Australia.
In recent years, Kathy has become an expert sought-out
by the Perth media to comment on a variety of topical
dog-related issues. She is also a regular guest on ABC
720 Perth, 98.5 Sonshine FM and 880 6PR.
Keen to share her expertise with the general public,
she has in recent years authored three books aimed at
helping people live harmoniously with their dogs.
Kathy the author;
Kathy's first book, ‘105 Great Ideas to Having
a Well Behaved Dog’, outlines dog-friendly strategies
to combat the difficulties and challenges often experienced
in the owner-dog relationship.
Her second book, ‘Watch My Manners’, is
designed to help owners avoid dog attacks, read their
canine's unique language and understand them on a whole
new level to literally "think dog".
’How to Introduce your Dog to your Baby’
is aimed at helping parents-to-be prepare their beloved
pets for the safe arrival into the family home of a
new baby.
She proudly owns three Siberian Huskies and regularly
competed in obedience and agility trials and
attained high accolades with her Siberian Chilli who
was one of the highest titled Siberian Huskies in
Australia.
Some of Kathy’s initiatives include;
- A first for Perth - Reactive Rover® classes
specifically designed for dog reactive and/or aggressive
dogs.
- Conducts seminars for vets, vet nurses, dog trainers
and the general public.
- Lecturer at Swan TAFE Animal Studies speaking about
dog behaviour and body language.
- Recommended by the RSPCA of Western Australia.
- Regularly attends dog behaviour conferences across
Australia.
She has trained hundreds of dogs using dog and people
friendly methods, many of them with serious behaviour
problems and has been interviewed by the media about
the work she does with dogs.
Kathy has appeared on ABC’s Stateline and on
Channel Nine’s ‘A Current Affair’
in 2009.
